Scripts – Backgrounds – the upgrade we’ve been waiting for!
We finally have a first class editor with all the features you’d expect (except saving of course). Formatting, comments, search, line numbers, intellisense/self-checking, error indicators, color-coded keywords and the thumbnail scroller on the right.

If you are not familiar with Scripts Background: Scripts Background allows you to run server-side code if required. However, this comes with a risk – it is not recommended for production instances, but can be a real time saver in the development department if you need to reset fields across records, trigger events that require testing, test flows, etc.
You can find it by navigating to All > System Definition > Scripts – Background.
Tip: Delete bookmarks you have already created and create them again. Otherwise you may be disappointed. If you use the bookmark under System Definition and look at the URL, you will notice that it leads to sys.scripts.modern.do. However, if you have an existing bookmark, it will still navigate to sys.scripts.do and give you the old user interface.
You can easily use third-party add-ons like Xplore and SNUtils here. These are wonderful tools and initial tests with SNUtils show that there are no conflicts with the new editor.
Flow Designer gets better
Flow Designer already enables process owners to automate work and create multi-stage processes from reusable components without having to program. With the latest functions, it is now also possible:
- Creating multi-step flows with generative AI.
- Open the Flow Designer from Workflow Studio.
- Automatically save flows while you are working on them.
- Start a flow when the Performance Analytics conditions are met.
- Undo changes you have made while editing a flow.
You can use the flow diagram view to add annotations and try out the flow logic.
A new addition – Workflow Studio
ServiceNow has introduced an exciting new tool, Workflow Studio, to make working with ServiceNow even easier. It enables the integration of workflow authoring, configuration and monitoring on a single page. Anchor Playbooks, Flow Designer, Action Designer, Integration Hub Integrations and Decision Builder in a single design environment.
Homepage
The Workflow Studio homepage displays all workflow applications that are available for creating and editing.

Operations
The Workflow Studio Operations page displays execution details for workflow applications that are currently running and whose execution has been completed.

Integrations
The Workflow Studio integration page displays connection details for Integration Hub Spokes. You can use this page to configure inbound and outbound spoke connections.

Impressive GraphQL-Explorer
GraphQL Explorer is an integrated GraphQL testing tool. The advantage of this integrated tool is that you can test faster without having to install additional packages and constantly enter login information during testing.
You can find the GraphQL Explorer by navigating to All > System Web Services > GraphQL > GraphQL Explorer.
Self-control
A big advantage of GraphQL is that the server (or ServiceNow instance) defines a framework of what type of request from the client is allowed (and what is not). To reduce the need for documentation for the API, the GraphQL explorer uses self-inspection to give you insight into the details of the API. This works via the document icon at the top left. With a few simple clicks, you can identify queries and mutations, available properties (or fields) and their specific data types.
